Vibram’s Spring 2013 FiveFingers line-up include two wholly new models that are geared towards wetwear—they’re called the FiveFingers Maiori and the FiveFingers Signa (seen above).

We’ve yet to review these new offerings. This is mostly due to not having adequate review conditions given the season. That said, I have played with both new models and they are very interesting.

Mama Maiori!

The FiveFingers Maiori is a reboot of the original Flow (Pictured above, right). It’s got a neoprene upper and a brand new Vibram rubber sole that is incredibly flexible and thinner than the original FiveFingers sole. Interestingly enough, the two smallest toes on the sole of the Maiori are bound together (still separate compartments though). Unlike the original Flow, the Maiori’s upper is less constrictive on the toes and feels better all around, while also having an ankle cuff reminiscent of the short-lived FiveFingers Surge.

Net-net, if you’re looking for a FiveFingers model for when you’re in the water, the Maiori should be your first consideration. It’s retailing at $90 and you can get free 2-day shipping for the next week using our exclusive code BDAY2DAY.

More on the Maiori here.

Signa!

The FiveFingers Signa is a water permeable, ultra-minimalist toe shoe that is meant for water activities like paddle boarding, kayaking, surfing, etc. The Signa reminds my foot a little of the old ultra-minimalist, leather Moc in how it fits to your foot like it’s just fabric. Granted, the fabric is synthetic and not all that stretchy in the upper over the instep, but still super flexible.

Combined with an insanely thin rubber sole (that has little drain holes) that has a front and rear piece (the arch area is just fabric), these seem to me to be the most minimalist FiveFingers available today.

If you’re looking for a FiveFingers model that keeps you shod in a very-near-barefoot-way while at the beach and don’t want the extra coverage of the Maiori, the Signa is for you. It is $80 and you can get free 2-day shipping for the next week (ending Friday March 29) using our exclusive code BDAY2DAY!

More on the Signa here and I have taken almost 30 photos of the Signa. You can check them out by hopping over to Google+ here!

I wonder if the top of the Maiori would keep the shoes from being pulled off by a breaking wave? The Flow came off much too easily. Pulling off a pair of fins would also remove the shoes.
